Philosophy

All children draw. Art is hard-wired into the human brain. It is natures tool for analyzing how we see the world. That is what toddlers are doing when they draw. They are "figuring out" the world around them and the things that interest them.

We provide everything a child needs to produce beautiful works of art. Classes provide enough structure to be successful while giving the student freedom to express their own creativity and style. The curriculum is richly balanced in the elements of art, with inspiration gathered from a wide range of sources, such as plant and animal life. All classes introduce students to a variety of media such as chalk pastel, acrylic paint, watercolor, pencil and clay sculpture. Children are introduced to representational drawing and they learn to recognize the elements of shape and combine them in drawing animals, still life, natural forms and more.

Everyone can learn to draw. Drawing is something anyone can learn to do with instruction and practice. It is not just a talent that only a few inherently possess. Students often see improvement in handwriting, fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination. As they acquire new skills, they feel more comfortable in a non-judgemental, non-competitive environment where creativity is nourished and expression is valued.
